Eggy Custom Thread Field Groups gives XenForo administrators a cleaner way to organise large sets of custom thread fields without replacing XenForo’s native field system.
Features
• Create multiple custom thread field groups• Assign existing XenForo custom thread fields to any group
• Use separate administrative titles and public-facing titles
• Add optional descriptions to groups
• Control group display order
• Collapse individual groups in the Admin Control Panel
• Collapse groups when creating or editing threads
• Show group headings on thread forms
• Show group titles correctly in XenForo’s Thread status area
• Keep grouped fields together on public thread views
• Hide groups on thread view when all assigned fields are empty
• Move fields between groups at any time
• Leave ungrouped fields working normally
• Preserve XenForo’s native field display positions
• Preserve XenForo’s native validation, permissions and field behaviour
• Unique CSS hooks are available for individual groups for easier styling
• Existing groups, field assignments and group settings are preserved during add-on upgrades
• Clean uninstall leaves the original XenForo custom thread fields and their stored values intact
Example
A coffee forum may use several custom thread fields such as:• Roast Level
• Grind Size
• Grind Amount
• Yield
• Extraction Time
• Store / Price / Size
• Age of Beans
Instead of displaying those fields as one unrelated list, they can be placed inside a group called:
Recipe
On the thread form, the fields appear together inside a collapsible Recipe section.
On the finished thread, the same fields are displayed together beneath the Recipe heading.
This makes larger custom field setups considerably easier for both administrators and users to understand.
Native XenForo behaviour is preserved
Eggy Custom Thread Field Groups does not create a separate custom field system.XenForo continues to control:
• Field types
• Required and optional field behaviour
• Validation rules
• Applicable forums
• Permissions
• User-entered values
• Native field display positions
• Existing custom field data
The add-on only adds organisation and presentation around those existing fields.
If a XenForo custom thread field is configured to use a native position such as Thread status, Before message, After message, or another supported location, that native position continues to be respected.
Admin Control Panel management
Custom thread field groups are managed from their own dedicated area in the XenForo Admin Control Panel. Each group can be configured with:
• Administrative title
• Public-facing title
• Description
• Display order
• Active or inactive status
• Thread form heading visibility
• Thread view heading visibility
• Hide-empty behaviour
• Collapsible thread form behaviour
• Assigned custom thread fields
Groups are also individually collapsible in the Admin CP, making larger configurations easier to manage.
New groups remain fully managed inside the add-on’s own interface.
Fields that are not assigned to a group remain available as ungrouped fields and continue functioning normally.
Styling
Each group has its own CSS hook, allowing individual field groups to be targeted and styled separately when required. This gives style developers and site owners additional flexibility without changing the underlying XenForo field configuration.
Upgrade safety
Custom groups, field assignments and group settings are treated as persistent administrator-created data.Future add-on upgrades preserve those existing configurations rather than recreating or resetting them.
