Messenger brings Facebook Messenger-style instant chat to your XenForo 2.3 forum — real messages, delivered in real time.
Unlike AJAX-based chat add-ons that poll the server on a timer, Messenger uses a persistent WebSocket connection powered by a bundled Node.js + Socket.IO server. Messages, typing indicators, read receipts, and presence updates arrive instantly, with zero polling load on your forum.
Built on XenForo's native conversation system
Every chat message is a normal XenForo conversation message. No duplicate tables, no separate history — your existing inbox, permissions, and moderation keep working exactly as before. Messenger simply adds a real-time chat layer on top.
