Opensource Adobe Suite

As things stand right now, so called 'clean room implementation' is legal (in the UK) meaning only the code and distinctive design is protected, not the function. In my view this has to be challenged in court or we are likely to see the annihilation of multiple software companies which in turn will lead to a loss of innovation.
So we only have, monopolies instead? If you can't build, from the ground up, the same product and same functionality, there is no competition, EVER.
Yeah, good luck convincing anyone to move their entire suite to a vibecoded unsupported mess that no one on earth fully understands the internals of.
It's open source... code is there for you to see and check yourself.
The individual apps can be downloaded and used for free. There are pricing plans there. Maybe for their online suites?
If you want the free version, you can get it on github, nothing excluded. Even the paid one is cheaper than Adobe. That has to be good?

But there are a number of alternative products programmed by coders which were not created by someone who reverse engineered the functionality of an existing product.

I get it, everyone loves free stuff but ultimately it'll stifle human creativity and put a huge number of people out of work.

Openoffice shut down Microsoft, right?
Agreed, though Microslop has their fat fingers in a lot of pies. Azure, Office, Xbox, Windows, etc. Adobe... its primary earner is Creative Cloud. Also openoffice never competed against Microslops real Office product, Exchange. If you have exchange, adding excel, word, etc, is easier to do. Ecosystems... hard to get out of once you're in them.

It says: ArtCraft can be used without paying for a subscription. You can bring your own compute and third-party subscriptions. We hope you’ll subscribe, though, as that helps accelerate our development.

Is it payment for the online browser version only?

The download versions seem to be free. That's a big kick in the nuts to Adobe.

Was this one reverse engineered? I didn't think it was. Could be wrong. I read about it... it was created from the ground up.
My understanding is he reverse engineered function, not code or copyrighted assets which is perfectly legal (in the UK). I use Photoshop almost on a daily basis but I also don't like their licensing agreements and welcome competition but not like this.

What worries me is I'm a working composer/musician and I'm seeing my industry decimated by AI and I can guarantee the same will happen to the software industry. It's practically a given that Xenforo will become largely obsolete, replaced by an AI created, functionally similar but cheaper product perhaps even before v3.0 sees the light of day.

It's also inevitable that the majority of people will see this as progress so my concerns are probably pretty irrelevant to be honest.

Amazing how smalls these apps are compared to the original Adobe apps.
PrintCraft is 114MB installed compared to 1.94GB of Adobe Acrobat.
The binary of the outdated Microsoft Word Version on my Mac has a whopping 2,21GB (and this is only the binary, no fonts, no templates, no caches, not preferences, nothing). I do still have a "fat Mac" (512k) from 1986 that has no hard drive. Along with it Microsoft Word, probably Version 1. It runs from a 712kb diskette, leaving plenty of room on that diskette for saving the documents you create. There is, to be honest, not much that one would miss from that early version of Word. You boot Mac OS from one diskette, remove the diskette, put in the other one with Word on it, fire it up and work smoothly with a full graphical user interface for both, OS and Word. Admittedly, the 640*480 b/w screen at 60Hz is somewhat hurting the eyes today and due to lack of a network port there's no internet available - but other than that: brilliant.

For products of companies like Adobe or Microsoft "bloat" is the underestimation of the century.

It will be fun to see how Adobe responds to this though. After installing a few of the apps they seem to have copied over how Adobe implemented the same features which unfortunately Adobe does have a pretty large catalog of patents on how those are implemented.

But also, a lot and I mean a lot, of the features just don't work or are bug ridden.

Is a "vibe coded" Xenforo an even greater risk ? As they can start with the code ?

Probably not, unless someone is an extremely serious, experienced dev, possible. What I have noticed about vibe coding is that, to get to launch a somewhat functional version 1.0 with bugs (of course), Codex/Claude can do it, but maintenance and TRUST are what I pay XenForo for; it just works. It does what it says on the tin.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint alternatives are also now available from Artcraft.

I’m sure they don’t match 100% of the functionality - but who uses even 50% of the functionality in office applications?

Bring on Quickbooks. I hate that they eliminate the desktop version and force people into their online subscription model.
