I have a use for a simple credits system very similar to what you have described. But I have two questions that may suggest whether or not this will work for my setup.

1 - I am installed on the XFcloud and as such I cannot edit the src/config.php file. I would need a standalone installer via ACP.

2 - Would I be able to increase/decrease member credits via a different on-site feature within my XF instance?

Tnx

1.) Hey there, the src/config.php change is only to enable using the ACP addon installer. This is disabled by default for self hosted install. I have not used XF cloud but I'm guessing it's either already set so you can download the ZIP and use the installer or you can put in a ticket with XF to have it enabled.

2.) Potentially, out of the box it's very basic there's no built in hooks to work with other add-ons currently. What kind of on-site feature are you using that you'd want it to work for?

I have a custom feature and I wish to extend that feature to a points system. I wish to offer members the opportunity to 'win' points, but to do so users will have to spend points. Nothing grand or exceptionally complex, but I was curious if a mechanism is available that I could hook into to make this work. And this points credit system shows everything that I would otherwise have to create on my own. This appeared to be a much easier path with the credits system as the framework would already be in place.

Okay, I hear you. I will work on making this available in general :) I appreciate the feedback.

@CTS if you have any interest I have a pre-release build available that I put the API / Hooks in. See if it's doing what you need it to do. If it works I'll merge it into the main build :)

Purely up to you though no pressure from me :)

I'll give it a shot, but it will be tomorrow before I can test it out. Tnx

So I have installed the dev version. I noted a couple things:

I wish when you opened up the credits settings that the acp menu would stay expanded instead of collapsed on the page view. Not a show stopper so no worries.

Since I didnt see a cron, I used the rebuild feature. It appears that it only updates the admin group. I check permissions and registered users are set to yes on both settings.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have admin checkboxes or something that lets the admin select on which profile locations the credits would appear. Personally I just like clean mini-profiles and wouldn't mind being able to turn off that location.

Testing out the cross addon hooks now so it may be a few.

edit to add: I reread the product post here and sees that it builds forward after install. A nice rebuild could look back for post count and thread count I suppose. Just an idea.

New dev release based on your feedback :) let me know any other thoughts.

Edit: since you liked the post I ended up making a few tweaks.

Ok, early tests are in.

The points addon operates as designed.

I have successfully attached read/subtracted from users credits using my custom addon, and I suspect the add feature will operate as well. I just have to test it out over a few days.

But so far so good.

Suggestions:

On the users profile page, I am thinking that the initial page with the credits total, the transfer credits tool, and the credit history log can all fit on one page. The first two are just small.

In the credit history log on a users profile page, pagination would keep it reasonable, and maybe a way to auto-prune by date or something. I imagine the log could get quite large quite fast.

I am glad it seems to be working for you so far :) I also appreciate the feedback here. I will put it on the list of things to take a look at and improve upon!

A question, the daily visit points awarded,... what does it use for a time reference to award that? GMT? Forum time? Just curious as I noted it awarded me several hours before midnight.

Currently UTC - I have added to the roadmap to make this configurable.

I love the new Redeem Code feature. Already implemented.

Say, later on down the road, if this addon were to 'accidentally' have the ability to display a widget showing the top x point holders, that would be awesome. Something that could be put in a sidebar like forum home. Not necessary, but would be a cool extra.

Thank you for this addon. It was the perfect size and with the functionality I needed.

Hahaha, I am super glad you are finding some use from it...it would be a shame if I 'accidentally' put it on my roadmap :P
