Today out of nowhere, The forum started showing message:

1789488971380.webp

We logged into ACP and found a message stating, 2.3.6 Patch 2 available. One of the admin went ahead and installed it. It showed successful on completion but the Site still showed the same message. Hit up the server support to see if any issues on server side and after trying multiple things over past 3-4 hours nothing worked and now site shows this:

An exception occurred: [ErrorException] [E_WARNING] Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /index.php:1) in src/XF/Http/Response.php on line 401

  1. XF::handlePhpError()
  2. header() in src/XF/Http/Response.php at line 401
  3. XF\Http\Response->sendHeaders() in src/XF/Http/Response.php at line 292
  4. XF\Http\Response->send() in src/XF.php at line 856
  5. XF::runApp() in iindex.php at line 23
  6. include() in main.php at line 15
  7. include() in index.php at line 55

What could have caused this error and how to fix this? Server support is out of suggestion other than to restore a backup from previous day.

It's gonna be quicker if you create a ticket in your customer area.

Thanks I have submitted a ticket in Customer Area now.

Server team had renamed the install-lock.php file. I have restored the name and now forum shows the 'Please check later' message again. in ACP I am seeing the php version msg:

1789491750736.webp

Could this be causing the issues. Anyway getting PHP 8.3.0 version installed at server.

basic troubleshooting:

1) disable all addons via config file directive $config['enableListeners'] = false; to your src/config.php
2) re-upload all files with correct chown attribute (if you're on nginx, and you ftp as you@domain, the files end up with the wrong ownership.)
3) clear any caches (cloudflare, redis, etc)
4) re-run the upgrade script to rebuild master data.

So, you had error before you applied patch? Or, you applied patch first, and then found out the forum is down.

Your thread title and this text are not coherent.

Disabled all Addons, Cleared all caches (redis and cloudflare), re-ran the upgrade, don't have any clean copy of code so can't upload them again.
Nothing worked.
Connecting with Support at Customer area to investigate further.

The issue is finally resolved after working with both Webhost support and Xenforo support. PHP version which was earlier set to older 8.2.28 has been updated to 8.3.0. Webserver was rebooted again and website came back to life again.

No-one could figure out what actually caused the error. What I suspect is the older PHP version which was configured earlier. The site had been running with PHP 8.2.28 for a while and none of the admins noticied the warning in Admin Panel recommending an upgrade to PHP 8.3. So when the patch update initially tried installation it might have caused some issues (maybe?). While investigating, we noticed this and got PHP 8.3.0 installed on server and configured the domain to use 8.3 instead of older version. Then the Webserver support rebooted our server once and cleared all caches.

And Bang the website came back to life!
