Got it. It wasn't an issue with the code. Wordfence Firewall from the Wordpress install on the same domain was blocking it. In case anyone else runs into it, the trick is to put Wordfence Firewall into Learning mode, then do it, then turn off Learning mode and it all works happily again. Thanks...

One of my users is double-posting every time and this is on a fresh install (upgraded from vB4) with no add ons installed. He said his reply box isn't getting cleared when he hits post reply, whereas mine is getting cleared. Could that be a clue as to the cause of these double posts?

I don't know. I sent @ChrisD a message in August, but he hasn't replied yet. I'm tied up with other projects so I've put it on hold at the moment, but I'll be reactivating this project in the spring, so I'd still love to know the answer.
