I don't know if this has been stripped off in later versions of the software, but you used to be able to log in as a user to see what they would see. It was a great reality check on the set of permissions you thought you were assigning. But I can no longer find that function in my newer version...
Suddenly my installation is showing the message "this site uses cookies" and doesn't let me in until I use the solution provided on another thread (thank you for that!)
The solution was to simply change the URL above in the moment, to https, but how do I make that change permanent?

Your theory was correct. It was my browser doing auto-fill. I opened the admin panel in an incognito browser and the problem did not happen. I know I should upgrade, but I no longer have a developer on-call, so things like this aren't happening in as timely a manner as they should.

Yipes. I think I have a virus. People can register, but when I go in to the admin panel to assign their sub-forum permissions, their name, username and password revert to another person's credentials; the same person for everyone who registers.
