XF 2.3 Single sign on and more with OAuth2 in XenForo 2.3

I just want an out-of-the-box way to connect WordPress to XF and use XF as the registration vehicle. Methinks the techies should take care of the details and make this stuff easy. That's why we pay the money, no? I don't know what "Oauth" is, and I don't care.

The future of forums (vs social media)

Anyone remember photo.net? Found these notes from Philip Greenspun, the creator: https://philip.greenspun.com/teaching/photo.net-history/speaker-notes Interestingly, he notes at the bottom that "advertising revenue for smaller web sites has been devastated by competition from Facebook."

Looking for feedback: A new look at forum user experience

Sharing, however easy it might be, is good for the social media companies, making their feeds more active and engaging their users on their platforms, but it's not doing you much good at all. In fact it's encouraging your users to look as much at the other platforms as at yours. Forums started...

Looking for feedback: A new look at forum user experience

After many years I have concluded that integration into social media sites benefits mainly the social media sites, not you. All those people on FB, Twitter, Instagram, whatever? They ain't gonna come to you and build up your site. They might click "like" on those platforms, but that won't do you...

Looking for feedback: A new look at forum user experience

It's all down to attention: which platform provides the most (perceived) attention for members. That's what drove forums in their heyday. That's what's driving social media now. The psychological term "spotlight effect" describes well the motivation that many derive from social media activities...

Looking for feedback: A new look at forum user experience

Interface is largely irrelevant to users. There are only two things that matter to attract members: a topic that they're interested in and a critical mass of quality users. Behind the scenes, subtle moderation also is vital in keeping the place civil. I visit two forums that use crappy and...

    [bd] Widget Framework

Used to be able to get new threads and new replies in one widget. Is that no longer possible or am I just not figuring it out? Now it seems I have to have 2 separate widgets: one for new threads and another for new replies. Takes up valuable vertical space.

Facebook is killing traditional forums, but there is still time to adapt

It's true. Everything changes, including the environments in which our forums were created and made sense. Change is just a fact of life, and especially a fact of life in technology. The only question that will ultimately remain is whether you have the energy left to adapt or persist...
