I answered for profit so that means 100% of the other people are not in it for profit. This helps to understand the threads about how forums are dying and what to do about it.

With all the posts about how to make forums more relevant and get more members I thought it would be interesting to see why people own a forum. Yes I realize you could do it for fun or profit but the MAIN reason.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am more concerned with the quality of the host and something I don't have to mess with. A quick look at linode seems to actually be more expensive unless I am not understanding things.

bump I would pay to set the number of pictures a person could upload. This to me would be a GREAT add on for a subscription. Basic membership you can upload 1 pic. then members could upgrade for access to private areas, increase how many pics they are allowed to put in their profiles and so on.
