You don't REPLACE... you PLACE them from the 1.1.5 archive into the matching structure of the 1.2.x directory. I can't explain it any simpler than that.
There is no promise that will work. I know it works on my upgraded forum but haven't tried it on the others as I just do it in HTML.

@eterskov I wouldn't bother, stick with HTML. There are still problems with the TinyMCE editor, particularly in editing notifications - just read back in the thread to see this from other users. I had these issues and switched it off. HTML us fine for now until this add-on is updated.

XenForo 1.1.5 archive or lower - should be avialable from the same place you downloaded 1.2.x series - just choose the 1.1.5 version.

Why would you want to download any version earlier than 1.6.2? You're on XF 1.2.3 so there would be no benefit to having an earlier version. If you look at the updates tab, using earlier versions would mean you'd lose features and miss out on fixes that have been implemented.

The editor works fine in the new version. The add on just hasn't been updated to use the new redactor editor in XenForo 1.2.0.

Because it doesn't support the new Redactor editor that XenForo uses. It only supports the OLD TinyMCE that was used with 1.1.x series when it was coded. It is planned to have it work with Redactor. He has other commitments that are a little higher priority right now.

Currently the add on works fine.

We're still on XF 1.2.2 but just found a potential bug. When trying to edit the text of an existing donation it says "changes saved" but then when you go back to it, it's failed to change anything.

As we're not on the latest XF yet you probably don't want to waste too much time debugging it but wondered if anyone else found the same?
