What Is You Experience With TinyMCE [XenForo's Editor]?

Ckeditor is not free, we have to consider if XF team can afford the cost of it for lot of licences ($1450)

It would be nice to have a radio button option that toggles between the current skin and a XenForo version of the TinyMCE black variant for darker themes. The current theme doesn't really lend itself well to dark themes and while I appreciate it can be changed, it would be great to see a predefined option available.

I must admit, I like this implementation of the editor. I would love to see a "save as draft" feature though

TinyMCE uses the LGPL license, CKEditor allows you to use the GPL, LGPL, MPL, or commercial license. Since XenForo is already using TinyMCE under the LGPL, there's no reason to expect them to use the commercial license for CKEditor (if they switched of course).

Seems like ALOT of people whom know their stuff want CKeditor.
TinyMCE can get frustrating at times. Especially as you add formatting.
I think if the editor was going to be changed .... it should be soon .... as it effects so many other things.

Q: What editor(s) does Wordpress use ? [I did some research here].

Please dont go with the CKEditor. Why? I'm basing my experience on the platform on which I use it - my 2 IPB sites. Its buggy as hell and more often than not entire posts just disappear just as you are about to press post. Lets stay with what we have please. Nice, clean, easy to use and people like it. Its intuitive.

I see people are saying copy/paste is a nightmare using TinyMCE, believe me.... copy/paste is a living hell on CKE

TinyMCE is driving me up the wall...

Copying and pasting seems to be quirky. If ever you update a post, and try to put a new line in somewhere, or select a line with the mouse that has no space on it, it seems impossible (you have to arrow through the text, or put spaces on new lines).

I'm forever updating my posts/threads (since I seem to be the source of many typos), so I'm always seeing a lot of Editor issues.

Are these issues that we can iron up by upgrading to a later versions of TinyMCE, or would we really need to be as dramatic as changing the editor altogether?

One thing that is for sure is that if we don't like the TinyMCE bugs people should be spending more time reporting them to TinyMCE.

I'm not entirely sure that all the issues are problems with TinyMCE directly. I haven't dug too much into it, but it seems to me some of the problems are issues with XenForo's BBCode parser. Although it certainly wouldn't hurt to upgrade to the latest version. XF uses TinyMCE 3.4.2, so anything fixed/changed in the versions after that aren't going to be in XF...

Just from glancing at it, I do see one annoying thing in XF that was fixed in the newer versions of TinyMCE (how tabs are stripped within [code] blocksin WebKit browsers).

Changelog said:
Version 3.4.5
Fixed bug where the nonbreaking_force_tab option in the nonbreaking plugin wouldn't work on Gecko/WebKit.

Same thing here, never have I spent so much time going back fixing typo errors like I do using TinyMCE. It's like I'm 4 yrs old again just learning to write. And generally speaking, I find it such hard work and a real choir writing anything with it.

It sucks big time, sorry but it really does! I don't even enjoy writing on my own forum with it half the time, I'm posting much less there than I normally would because I hate using it.

I've never liked vB wysiwyg mode, neither xenForo "Rich Text Editor". But in vB i had a real choice. When I used the editor in BBcode mode, I still have buttons. With the BBcode mode of this editor, I don't have any! I hope there will be a solution in the future.

There's a new js query editor I would be curious to try, it's "markitup".

Is this what you want ?

I was able to find this by doing a title search for "editor" in the addon release forum.

Darkimmortal is an excellent coder.

That text editor called markup looks pretty cool, just been messing around using it there. Seems a little basic on features however, plus the default font-size is little on the small side. But it's very smooth for writing with and looks quite nifty and stylish.

Yes but look at the configuration page, adding buttons seems very easy. So with a good bbcodemanager, the features can be pretty amazing.
