Interesting.

An alternative way is to allow content to be posted independent of the user.

Many times I want to say "Thanks" for the information, but it feels "weird" to Like the post (for instance if the post is bad news). This is worse on mobile as doing anything other than like seems harder than it should be.

of course, this "content posting" would enable everyone to like/dislike it.

Users posting "as content" not themselves may need to be a moderated activity. Maybe with some easy clicking people could determine "who actually posted it".

This "content posting" (independent of user) could also allow for "super spicy" rating options. Since the ratings won't be tied to the user, "effing ridiculous" or "jail him" or "i'm outraged" or "sue him" could be allowed rating options.
