I'm covering a trade show in Schaumburg (Chicago) in a week and a half. It's mainly high-end audio, certainly the biggest show in the US of its type. Was talking with my editor last week about the narrow selection of music at these shows. (Hard to describe, but it's the type of stuff I'd never listen to at home.) He mentioned that he should try to connect with a manufacturer and have an '80s listening party. And I agreed. He's a bit older and a little more rooted in the 70s, but isn't so glued to it that he can't listen to anything beyond 1976 (like many "aging rockers" tend to do).
I'd be good with that. One of the rooms this year is having an after-hours metal party. Not my cup of tea, but we both applaud the effort and may try to attend if we're back from the company dinner by then.
