Way to prevent new users from bumping old threads?

We have a problem where a new user comes in and posts a reply to an eight-year-old thread instead of starting a new one, even though they had to acknowledge that they're bumping an ancient thread (thanks to an add-on).

Is there any way to prevent this?

All of my new users are in a special usergroup until they get 10 posts, so a usergroup-based solution is fine.

Thanks!

Argh. Just had a new user go through all the proper steps then proceed to bump four threads from the 2010s all with the same question. Thankfully the email admin on old post tool alerted me.

I think what I really want is a switch in usergroups that limits the ability to post in threads over xx days old. That way I can just use the usergroups that are already in place.

I don't know how I never found this before but this is exactly what I've been looking for!

This is awesome because it does not lock old threads - it just denies the ability to reply to them based on the last date of the last post in the thread. Mods can still post to these threads which means users can PM a mod who can "bump" the thread after which it comes alive once more.

Fabulous!

AndyB for the win again!
