User Settable Content Discovery Addon

If someone ( ) was to create an addon for this, what are the different kind of content that is out there that should be included?

Essentially aiming for a fully user-customizable content stream builder, similar to what platforms like Discourse or Invision Community offer. Supporting all content types (threads, resources, media, posts, etc.), with options for ownership, read status, date filtering, tags, and more. It would also include admin defined streams as well, this way admins can set their own homepage to the stream.

This is no small feat, it would be between 60-100 hours of development (possibly more for someone like me) due to the complexity and the UX layout (which is going to be a pain in the bum). Then there is the actual display of the content, that is going to be a pain to get it right.

User adding a new stream would be similar to this:
1746360704353.webp

This is all hypothetical at this point, just gauging interest and complexity.

Profile posts too. Essentially all user submitted content.

Filtering is important imo. Yes, we want to present all content, but I would like to be able to drill it down if wanted.

Prefix, node, content type, date, etc.

It would be AWESOME if you could react with / reply to content directly from the stream too.

Just curious:
Which (additional) content could users on xenforo.com discover better / more easily with a unified interactive what's new stream / feed / timeline?

yeah thats some good ideas...im focusing extra some about things like prefix, tags, custom fields atm...
they all need to be there but i think custom fields(thread/user) could have the best new benefits, im still sort of thinking it over tho about how/what can be practically implemented.

Media gallery comments
Then you got all bob's addons (items + comments)
Classifieds (nix)
Calendar events (nix)

At the moment we all rely on the "associated thread" being created to both bring visibility and allow commenting on the items.

When I'd much rather use the comments feature of the content types themselves (for those that support it)

Maybe for the average user, everything as most users don’t bother with the tabs to reveal different content type.
Hmm, maybe it is just me but I can hardly find any other content :(

As far as I can see there has been
One profile post
within the last 24h which cannot be discovered via New Posts

But besides that - where is the other content that cannot be discovered, do you have links to any such content created at xenforo.com within the last 24h?

Please don't get me wrong, I appreciate the idea of a unified feed - I just want to understand the benefit it would bring for content discovery specifically at xenforo.com.

Thanks for the explanation.

So you believe users on xenforo.com would post a lot more profile posts, media items, albums, media item comments, album comments, resources, resource updates, resource versions and resource reviews if only this content was more visible / could be discovered more easily?

No. I do not think profile posts would be used more on xenForo.com

I believe they would be used significantly more on all of my forums.

I don't think people come here to use the other content types really on this site

That's basically my point - on this forum and probably many similar forums (eg. tech support forums) a feed probably wouldn't make a huge difference as users basically only use threads anyway.

Are the majority of XenForo customer forums comparable to xenforo.com or do most of them use (many) more content types so they would benefit?

I believe most XenForo forums usage patterns are quite similar to xenforo.com but I might very well be wrong.

Even on this site, you'd never know if someone posted an image in the gallery (or made comments on it) which I would say quite a lot of forums do use.
