This is using a highly modified default style - no bought style is used here.

Quite a few template modifications were employed to get the look and feel, as well as a lot of style changes and quite a few little snippets in the extra.less template to add some tweaks. The site is currently closed as there is some experimentation going on behind the scenes, so it will reopen soon (this is as of 18th March 2025).

The front page is a XF Page with it's own HTML code, images and CSS files
As a guest on first view, the default xenForo notice at the top and the cookie notice at the bottom blocks most of this out.

If you're open to suggestions:
  • I usually edit the cookie notice to make it one line instead of two, so it does not take up much screen space.
  • I'd also look into a way to disable the xenForo notice for the front page.
Otherwise, looking good (y)

Thanks for taking the time to have a look and make some important valid suggestions. Edits now done to make cookies message one line and to reduce the size of the guest notice; that latter is something I never noticed being logged in all of the time lol.

Many thanks again.

Wow! Your forum looks great! Excellent graphics and layout IMHO. Nice job!
Thank you for your kind words, I enjoy messing with layouts to see what can be squeezed out of the tube lol. I'm not done yet, as there are a few items still on my 'to do' list that I want to see if they are possible :)

Site has had a makeover to generate a more relaxed mode of viewing - tidied up some CSS and made adjustments for mobile so it's all beginning to take shape. I'm considering adding a gallery to the site, but have yet to make a decision on this.

Looks good as it is IMO, but if you already have the licence, then why not? :D

I just added a few albums and the whole process was very painless.

I wanted the mood to reflect the music genre - I quite liked the light theme, but this one from @Ehren 'Uniform Dark' is a real pleasure to work with. I've used it on my Movie site (have two licences for both XF and Uniform Dark before anyone asks lol) with a similar feel though the colors are a little different. The Gallery I'm considering is to allow people to add photos of bands and artists; I'm also thinking this would be a good use of @Bob Showcase addon which I have a licence for. Still thinking about this. There's also something happening in the background which is a secret until it's done - something a little different :)

Site has had a major update see the first post.

Look forward to seeing all you rock fans over there and engaging in the music you love :)

BTW: if you are a registered Spotify user, you can listen to the majority of the albums on-site by visiting an album, scroll down to the second post and there will be a playlist. If you're not a Spotify user you can listen to previews.

The site has had a major makeover (see first post, and others below for new images). New name too, as part of my new 'Talk' series of sites. Have a look, register and interact if rock music is your thing, everyone is welcome. No adverts, no subscriptions, just rock music for rock music fans.

Upgraded to 2.3 RC5 and it's all working fine. Had to go through a number of templates to redo changes, which was expected. Also had to rejig some CSS elements and finally managed to get my font awesome icons to work, including those in the navigation. A few minor adjustments in the template elements and that was as much as was needed.

The new front page is showing in the first post, a highly modified default style being used. Here are a couple more screenshots.

Navigation menu - overlay changes to red when hovering over and selected portion turns black.

Change from light to dark and vice versa has been moved into the navigation menu - this was a template edit.

A special link was added to each forum so with a click/tap you will see the albums presented by release year descending, which means the latest albums will be shown first. This was achieved by another template edit.

Album forums have been changed using both template edits and code added to the extra.less template so you get all you need to determined whether you want to click a cover and find out more.

This is a snippet of what an album entry looks like when an album cover is clicked in the forum list.

The star ratings also use a fast rating system, so no pop-up - just hover over the stars you want to award and click; your rating is registered. You can change this by increasing or lowering the number of stars and click again. This was a paid for update to the add-on.

This next is a glimpse of the dark mode.

It's been fun making all these changes, and it illustrates how the default style can be adapted to look more modern.

The site will be opened up in the next few days so you can go play and see first hand what it's like. Enjoy! :)
