XF 1.5 Server errors prevent upgrade to 2.1

So, I was going to do my live upgrade from 1.5 to 2.1 tomorrow. However, we have started getting the errors described in this and various other thread (Prepared statement needs to be re-prepared). We are in shared hosting so restarting mysqld or messing my.cnf ain't happening (already contacted the host).

So, do I pull the trigger and see if upgrading fixes it? Or do I keep plugging away at this and push off the upgrade? My worry as an old school IT guy is that I won't know if any errors I get post-upgrade are due to this or the upgrade.

Host did suggest lowering php version. If that worked, then that would strongly suggest upgrade and then raise it again so I may just try that.

Thoughts?

Try to install a brand new XF 2 installation in separate folder.
Let it run for few days, do some things there like posting thread, posting message, etc.
If there is no error, i think you are good to go.

Do a test first, always recommended

Okay, just tot avoid further answers like this:

I tested the hell out of it over the past couple months starting with late 2.1 betas. I don't futz around with stuff like this. 20 years in corporate IT does that to you. This issue with the errors in my live just started yesterday as I was organizing things to do my final live upgrade today. I should not need further testing at this point. I could refresh my test and try upgrading it again but I don't even know of the errors will carry over since dev has its own database.

Disable all addons and see if the errors continue, one or more of them may have PHP compatibility issues.

Thanks, Ozzy. Yeah, that one was on my radar for today. I have to remove all of them before the upgrade anyhow so if disabling them fixes it, then I'm good to go. They are fairly old add-ons, too. None of them are coming back after the upgrade. Two are no longer needed and the third is being replaced with a newer, more capable add-on.

Definitely getting fewer of them but I did get some happening while I was doing some cleanup in ACP to accommodate for losing the add-ons. It does seem to be related to them, though, so I may just go ahead with the upgrade since that gets rid of them completely. But, I won't have time until afternoon (EST).

And the correct answer to my subject line is "No". The error comes up during the install process bringing it to a grinding halt. Currently restoring to 1.5 from my pre-upgrade backup and figuring out next steps. Any thoughts on how to take it from here?
