Yes I am aware you can use "display: none;" on small resolution and serve a different image instead. But in this way the browser still downloads both images and has no positive effect on performance. In an effort to speed up our mobile sites there could be two separate HTML fields for each advertisement, one for desktop and mobile. Maybe there is a better way to achieve the same goal, I don't know. Google ranking algo is putting significant weight on the speed of mobile sites last I heard.

Thanks but you didn't read the post, we want to avoid using this method because it causes a get request for a image that is not displayed which does not help our mobile performance, it actually hurts it even worse because now we're getting 2 images instead of one.
