The main reason for members to create a second account is because they lost access to the email address connected to their old account. This happens particularly often for older websites.

So when merging these accounts we need to connect the new email address to the old account. Currently that means manually copying the email address to a file. Then copy-pasting the old account name into the merge function field. And after the merge copy-pasting the new email address into the account and saving it.

It would be much easier to just be able to select to keep the email address of the source or the target account.

Since the target account fields are used when you merge, the simplest and fastest workaround is to merge the old account into the new account and then just change the name on that merged account.

That's not less work than changing the email address and it has the issue that new accounts often lack data compared to an account which has been used for a long time.
