So essentially this pins important posts to below the 1st. I could see this being useful for our build threads where the discussion spans 20 pages.

Correct, but it’s limited to the amount of footnotes you can add, it’s 2 less that your Messages per page setting .

Correct, otherwise pagination is broken and posts are not displayed.

I want to love this (and the idea is perfect) but for me, I think this would be a better idea if the updates were maybe hidden under an accordion box under the OP.

So first post, collapsible box that would then show all the updates and then the rest of the normal posts. But this is just personal preference and likely not a public opinion.

I think I’d call it Thread Summary or Thread Overview.

Footnotes sounds like it’s referencing for academic papers.

It's not really a summary tho. Or even an overview. It's a collection of posts the OP considers important.

It's just based on the post they flag, from what I gather. So editing the post, I assume, will edit the note.

Correct, they can do anything they can with regular posts.
