I agree with Quillz, the logo should look like to XF's default style: thin, transparent, with a mixture of white / blue colors. In short, should be more "Web 2.0".
A logo is a real tricky thing to do. You can write pages and pages about what your site is about, but to capture that with some colour, a few letters, and maybe a slogan isn't an easy task. A logo is important because it's usually the first thing people see when they visit your site.
I like your design, I would agree with some of the other opinions though regarding the "web 2.0" feel. The second design (nice job) catches me more than the first one. Of course, that's just my 2 cents. I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination
