XF 2.1 Is there a way to make user names anonymous to the public?

Instead of user Joe, John, Jane
I would like to see something like User1, User10, User18 for robots and other public viewing.

I'd like to show user names only if you're logged in.
I once saw a tutorial on this for xenforo1 that I am having a tough time finding now. I would like updated guidance to do this for xenforo2.
