Some big forums still using XF 1.5 today so...

XF 1.5 = end of life:

Once the active support period has passed, we will only release new XenForo 1.5 versions if security flaws are identified. We will continue to do so until December 31, 2019, after which there will be no further XenForo 1.5 updates of any kind.

So I would definitely say it could be a security risk and I would put all my efforts to upgrade and ditch unsupported add-ons.

Using any no longer supported software package that faces the internet is a security risk... the way to mitigate that is to have your own developers frequently review the code to make sure it still meets "security compliancy" checks....
Kind of like running CentOS v5 and asking if it's "OK". Sure.. it's OK, until a unpatched security hole is found and exploited.

Only time I run OLD software is if it never touches a cat 5 or WiFi network.
