increase Post Size

The default Value for max Characters for a Post is set to 10.000 - My Users aks to increase it.

Is this ok? What happens if I increase it? mySQL lag?

It could lead to slower page loading if you have a lot of massive posts in one page.

I have unlimited characters set on my installation with no issues and I'm on shared hosting.

No, its still the first option under Messages.
