I installed several addons I wrote, my forum start page is now even faster than with addons disabled

I dont use any addons. I would have if the latest release didint include the spam features. It is much less hassel when upgrading. I also use the default theme with only customization being the site logo and the favicon.
Makes life easier.

- prune conversations
- roster
- total forum thread views
- Icewind Dale

Icewind Dale takes care of awarding experience and gold, random encounters, traps and treasure per forum, character generation, level-ups, inventory management, pick-pocketing, damage, and healing.
In the future the add-on will also handle temple services, an area for character vs character battles, and a tavern.

Which addons are labor intensive and slow the site down?

Most addons don't slow down the page in any noticeably way. You should take a look at the code. Or simply activate the debug modus so you get the output time written down at the bottom of each page. You can activate and deactivate the addon and see how much it would slow your server down.
