How does Google know when a post is updated?

I have updated a post but I don’t think Google is picking it up. It still says the published date on Google rather than the update date.

in my experience, google is really slow at picking up changed content on existing pages unless the url changes. it does not use indexnow and sitemap wouldn't have an updated date if the thread time was also not updated at the same time.

indexnow is a good fix for this but they don't use it. i have bing index threads instantly at times if a thread updated in backdate (title change that changes the url). though i am not sure if pushing post urls do much with indexnow which is what xenforo does for new posts in existing threads.

if you do want the content to be indexed on priority, best to submit it through search console.

I have changed the url and have submitted it through search console but it still says the published date on Google rather than the date it was updated. I see other sites constantly updating their posts and it reflects on Google search instantly. We must be missing a schema or something.

you might want to change the date of the thread as well i guess using an addon? i have been noticing that google search results for last 24 hours do not show threads with updated posts even when the content is indexed. this is a recent behavior i think. it really is focusing on thread start date and is just ignoring the post dates or something.
