Google Adsense Help

Hi there,

I have an issue that's more related to Adsense that Xenforo though because we're a 'closed' forum, it's basically starting to become an issue...

Basically, we keep getting Google Adsense adverts appearing saying things like 'Activate Your Account'. We've just had someone think this is part of the membership process and they've made a payment to the advertiser!!!

I really need to stop these types of ad appearing as soon as possible but can't figure out how to do it? Does anyone else know? Or does anyone else see these ads?

Thanks,

Andy

I report those to Google. But you say it’s a closed forum. I wonder part of the problem is Google has no access, hence can’t serve relevant ads and you get that type instead.

Thanks - how do you report them?
There’s a link on the ad, I think on the top right corner.

Edit just checked and I noticed they don’t give the option to say why the ad is inappropriate or misleading. Hmmm I’m sure they used to.

The other one I hate is the ad that looks like a big download button.

Found it.

To report click on top right of the ad then on why this ad.

There is then a report button at the top of the page, click on that. You get the option to say it violates Google policies, then an option to say it’s misleading and why.

You can get your users to report in that way.

The ad will be back, I’m sure it’s like whackamole.

If you are running Adsense you are just going to have to deal with it. "Join", "Activate", "Download" and similar ads are big money makers for Google. There are a ton of them from numerous companies that have ads distributed through Google AdSense.

You can go through individual ads in the "Ad Review Center" (under Brand Safety) within your Adsense account and block individual ads, but as soon as you block them other very similar or identical ads get added by other companies, you will be chasing your tail forever.

There are really your only two options:
  1. Expect some users will be taken by clicking these types of ads, and hopefully they have enough sense to not put in payment info after clicking them. Unfortunately this world is still full of people willing to put their CC into any website, happens thousands of times a day.
  2. Don't use Google Adsense.

...and trust me Google knows these ads exist and they make lots of money with people being taken by them. So don't bother trying to report to Google themselves.
