Obsidian is a "local first" markdown-based notetaking app. It has a plethora of plugins that do frankly incredible things. Embed and EDIT .pdfs ? Yes. Templates for note creation ? Yes. Use Tags to display notes as a graph or on a canvas ? Yes. Snyc to multiple PCs and your smartphone ? Yes. Create databases within Obsidian ? yes. Obsidian is quite popular already but is about to take off. As their Sync service becomes more robust and they add multiuser ("multiplayer") capability (roadmap) this gem is about to breakout. It's kinda like an offline Notion. Because the files are markdown (readable via any text editor) and the files are stored locally you are very immune to your data being held hostage by an online service provider. If you like self-hosted Xenforo over Xenforo cloud, you'll love Obsidian.
I don't see any community associated besides the company forum (Discourse based, don't like), and the usual reddit community (which the CEO contributes to and is a moderator).
If anyone wants to take their information seriously, wants a great note taking app, with internal databases, internal wikis, dynamic pages (with plugin: dataview), pdf support, etc etc etc .... then checkout Obsidian. And if you want to take your love of the product to a new level .... make a xenforo forum. Growth potential as a community: absolutely huge.
PM me for details, and of course I'll help contribute content.
