XF 2.3 Getting message to upgrade site even after I have latest update

When I go to my website, I get this message, "The site is currently being upgraded. Please check back later.".

I checked mydomain.com/install/ and all it shows is that xenforo 2.3.3 is available download but I already have that version of Xenforo.

I contacted my hosting provider to see if it was a PHP issue but they told me that wasn't the issue.

How can i troubleshoot this?

Go to your install link ../install/index.php?upgrade/ Follow the instructions and see what happens.

If the site has really been upgraded, you may need to clear your site cache (at the server).

I appreciate the suggestions.. During the upgrade a message pops up saying the upgrade did not complete successfully. Cleared cache and tried to the upgrade step again and still get the upgrade not complete message.

Checked my server error logs and this is the latest:

[28-Nov-2024 14:47:48 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function mb_internal_encoding() in /home/c8...../public_html/src/XF.php:138
Stack trace:
#0 /home/c8................../public_html/src/XF.php(112): XF::standardizeEnvironment()
#1 /home/c8......./public_html/index.php(15): XF::start()
#2 {main}
thrown in /home/c8....../public_html/src/XF.php on line 138
Had my hosting provider check other PHP settings on the server and they said nothing was wrong.

Try manually uploading the files.

Download the archive from your account and either upload the zip and extract on the server, or extract on your computer and upload the files.

Then try again.

Try manually uploading the files.
I did the manual upload, but gives me this message on a white screen, "The site is currently being upgraded. Please check back later." I also tried to do a manual upgrade to 2.3.4 and got the same message.

I'm currently restoring my site to a previous backup before this manual upgrade to at least see if my forum background shows up instead of white screen.

Not using any guest caching are you?

I do have site caching enabled. I disabled it but still got the same message about site being upgraded.

It's a holiday in the US so I think my hosting provider has the skeleton crew working and they are probably not as experienced. Will contact them again tomorrow and open a Xenforo ticket.

Disable the caching, try with incognito mode enabled this time. See what happens. Sometimes, local cache can still be present.

Okay... have some progress.

Just some context... 11/27 My hosting provider removed malware from my website. Right after they did that is when I started having the upgrade message on my site. So naturally I told them they caused it but they said it was a scripting (PHP??) issue. I'm paying a good amount for hosting and web security so the last thing I need is for them to give me the run around telling me it's Xenforo fault.

But now I just restored my site back to 11/26 which is the last time my site was working and the upgrade message is gone. My forum is working normal it seems. No errors when I do file check! I was afraid to restore to a date before Nov. 27 (the day of malware removed) thinking I would be bringing back the same malware files. I'll have them recheck it!

Wishing everyone a good rest of the Turkey holiday!
