Files, directories permissions/owner

I've searched the forum and still unsure on the best way to have this. My current permissions are:

All files 644
All directories 755

/data/ /internal_data/
All files 666
All directories 777

The owner/group is my user. Is that ok? Or should the owner/group be the php/apache user www-data?

I have it like that.

Who should be the Owner? Auto update requires www-data. If all files are owned by www-data I cant sftp files to the server, unless I chown everything to my user first, then change them all back to www-data.

So, I'm still unsure who should be the owner/group.

Doesn't matter. I can see its automatically changing in /data/ /internal_data/ owner to www-data when required.
