Exploratory program (once a year) .... recommendations

So it's that time again and my yearly contract is coming near due. So now is the time I mildly seek for any possible alternative web host.... ie... I shop around a little.

Seeking alternative offshore hosting at affordable prices with long term history.

Our site uses both WordPress and XenForo. If need be, we could just limit it to only XenForo.

Currently we have a VPS.

I know some host measure just the site and others measure both the site + OS.

Adding both website + OS, we use little bandwidth & little CPU usage, but we do use about 1 - 1.5GB of ram (so I would prefer 2GB for those rare sudden peeks).

Our site is uncensored. So people say & post everything you can imagine, including nudes (not porn)

Either USA, UK, or AU is typically an automatic disqualification.
 
After seeing some of your previous suggestions to other people for hosts I don't think I could honestly recommend anyone to you. I mean you have to admit your needs are very specific and commendable, if I could s witch to a liable VPS provider that couldn't be got at by the States I would move in a shot. I don't think there's anyone you would go for at the $25 mark.

My requirements I feel are very little.

Space: 1 gb
Bandwidth: 30 gb
CPU: 1 core
Ram: 2 gb
Allowed Content: Freedom of information & freedom of speech

I don't ever recall stating though an exact price.... Only that I seek one which is economical for the very little resources I use.
 
Oh the price is me comparing my current provider Linode with backups to all the vendors you've suggested to others in the past.

$79.95 for a VPS :eek:
I could get a Dedicated Server at that price.
I also do not need that much space, bandwidth, or the other resources.

I love how Nginx uses less resources, but hate it's re-writes and lack of .htaccess support. Just got tired of it one day.... Will jump back on when it can play nice with less customized configurations for every add-on, tweak, template, or other toy I add.
 
Be a pioneer TV!

Learn and share your rewrites with others so that they can make the change. For example took me months to figure out the vhost required for xfarcade but once I found it out I shared it here, messaged Mike and now it's part of the suggested default config for XenForo.

Not looking to be a pioneer at the moment.

Was a pioneer for vBulletin and now my "will" to tweak every little new in and out.... All gone.

Want the set it and forget it approach.

Besides... I tweak the site so often..... I don't want to have to tweak the server too for every add-on or modification I add to the site.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Basically what I do on the server side of things, after I've secured it and setup to my needs & liking.

However, I do still continue to tweak, add, remove, and change things often on the forum side of things.... And Nginx makes that all more harder to do.

When Nginx has more pre-defined options.... I'll think about moving back. Thought about Litespeed, but I like free and not to add to my cost.
