Dependent Multi Prefix System

Prefixes are really usefull function to categorize threads, resources and simplifying forums. I would like to recommend implementing a hierarchical or dependent prefix system that allows users to select a primary prefix, which then determines the availability of a secondary prefix. This feature is particularly useful for multilingual forums, document categorization, and structured classification.

Use Cases:
  1. Multilingual Forums:
    • Users can first select a category prefix (e.g., "Standard") and then refine it with a language prefix (e.g., "Spanish").
    • Example: Standard > Spanish, Book > Turkish
  2. Document Classification:
    • Users can classify documents by type and then by status.
    • Example: Regulation > Withdrawn, Standard > Superseded
  3. Broad Categorization Needs:
    • Users dealing with large datasets or knowledge bases can use dependent prefixes for better organization.
Feature Specifications:
  1. Primary Prefix Selection:
    • A mandatory or optional selection depending on forum settings.
    • Determines the context of the content.
  2. Secondary Prefix Selection:
    • Becomes available only after a primary prefix is chosen.
    • Can also be set as mandatory or optional.
    • Secondary prefix options are filtered based on the primary prefix.
  3. Prefix Dependency Management:
    • Admins can define relationships between primary and secondary prefixes.
    • Some secondary prefixes can be exclusive to certain primary prefixes.
  4. User Experience & UI:
    • Dropdown or selection-based system.
    • Secondary prefix dropdown activates dynamically based on primary prefix selection.
  5. Filtering & Searching:
    • Users can filter posts by primary or secondary prefixes.
    • Improves search functionality by refining results based on hierarchical prefixes.
    • An additional prefix menu can be beneficial.
A dependent prefix system will significantly enhance categorization, filtering, and search functionality in forums and document repositories. This feature provides greater clarity and organization, especially for multilingual or technical communities.

I hope the XenForo team considers implementing this feature in future versions.
