Prefixes are really usefull function to categorize threads, resources and simplifying forums. I would like to recommend implementing a hierarchical or dependent prefix system that allows users to select a primary prefix, which then determines the availability of a secondary prefix. This feature is particularly useful for multilingual forums, document categorization, and structured classification.
Use Cases:
I hope the XenForo team considers implementing this feature in future versions.
Use Cases:
- Multilingual Forums:
- Users can first select a category prefix (e.g., "Standard") and then refine it with a language prefix (e.g., "Spanish").
- Example: Standard > Spanish, Book > Turkish
- Document Classification:
- Users can classify documents by type and then by status.
- Example: Regulation > Withdrawn, Standard > Superseded
- Broad Categorization Needs:
- Users dealing with large datasets or knowledge bases can use dependent prefixes for better organization.
- Primary Prefix Selection:
- A mandatory or optional selection depending on forum settings.
- Determines the context of the content.
- Secondary Prefix Selection:
- Becomes available only after a primary prefix is chosen.
- Can also be set as mandatory or optional.
- Secondary prefix options are filtered based on the primary prefix.
- Prefix Dependency Management:
- Admins can define relationships between primary and secondary prefixes.
- Some secondary prefixes can be exclusive to certain primary prefixes.
- User Experience & UI:
- Dropdown or selection-based system.
- Secondary prefix dropdown activates dynamically based on primary prefix selection.
- Filtering & Searching:
- Users can filter posts by primary or secondary prefixes.
- Improves search functionality by refining results based on hierarchical prefixes.
- An additional prefix menu can be beneficial.
I hope the XenForo team considers implementing this feature in future versions.
