But I think I'd prefer putting it into the mod queue rather than notifications/alerts.

Content edit approval would indeed be nice.

Many forums disable editing after some time, with edit approval it could be possible to allow unlimited edititing time (for semi-trusted users) without a huge risk for content damage.
