Suggestion:
Add this somewhere on the frontend for users that do not like browsing looking at images. However do not offer all the settings, simply allow an override to view in Standard if the admin has chosen Preview or Expanded for the article forum.
  • Standard A full size view, displaying as a standard thread list.
  • Preview A grid of blocks showing a preview of the first post content including a cover image, if one is specified.
  • Expanded An expanded view, displaying as a list of rendered first posts, with either their complete content or a snippet thereof.
Use cases: Non-standard articles where the image is not as important as discovery.

The language may need to be more user friendly. Perhaps one phrase for preview and expanded like Standard View | Full View or something.
