XF 2.2 anti Spam by setting up first 5 posts as moderated

Hello
We need to set up a moderation on new members.
I am looking at the instructions to do that on here from Xenforo team.

They say edit the base user group 'registered' to have no permissions to post.
then set up a new Group called 'Verified Users' and set post without mods approval first.

Then create a promotion to move new members from 'Regsistred' to 'Verified Users' after they have 5 posts approved by the mods.

The ISSUE I see here, is 95% of our members are in the 'registered' group. If I set that as pre mods before posting, will it mess up those users, even if they have posted many more than 5 posts?

Please advise, if anyone has set up this facility.

If they have more than x posts, they will automatically get updated at next cron run so long as you have that set. XF\Cron\UserGroupPromotion runs every hour 20 after the hour.
can always trigger it manually.

Limit the default registered group how you see fit.
add a group promotion at X posts to the one that bypasses all the moderation/spam/manual approvals.

Word of caution, though. That will not stop someone from posting 5 benign posts, gaining promotion, and then going back to edit their posts to add spam - unless you also disallow editing by the OP either immediately or after a short period of time.

The promotion does not move them , it adds secondary group. All (100%) your members should be in registered group as primary. When promoted the verified group is added as a secondary group.

So all user without the secondary group have posts moderated until 5 have been approved when the verified group is then added and not require moderation

Personally I think this is best done through @AndyB 's add-on posted above as it avoids setting up a new group promotion and dealing with permissions for something as trivial as this.
