Currently posts are ordered by their date. This is fine when they are created in a thread one after the other.

But merging 2 or more threads can create a total mess when the posts have similar post dates. It can distroy the flow of reading and nobody knows who answered whom.

What can help? Order all posts of an included thread after the last post of the origin thread (or before the first post if one likes). Moderators with permissions can decide if this happens or not.

How could it work? Give all post entries internally another number that the system can order by. I would like to call it Thread Revision.

When a thread is created all new posts get Revision number 1.

When 2 threads get merged (call it Thread A and Thread B) the numbers of thread B are updated to 2, so all posts of thread B will follow the last post of thread A. New posts of merged Thread AB get number 3.

Between the posts of Old Thread A and Old Thread B (now merged) should be a visible break to show the visitors what happened.

With this system it would be easy to include new posts in the middle of a thread or to include new first posts without changing the post date. Another benefit. Merged threads could be separated with ease.
