Annotate. Redact. Share.

Give your members a complete screenshot editing workspace directly inside XenForo.

[SC] Redacted makes it easy to highlight important details, explain a problem, create visual instructions, and cover private information before sharing an image. Add arrows, text, numbered steps, highlights, magnified details, and redactions—all without leaving your community.

Open an image, paste a screenshot, or edit a copy of an existing attachment. When finished, download the result, copy it to the clipboard, or attach it directly to your post through XenForo’s native attachment system.

• Copy the finished image as PNG to the clipboard in supported browsers.
• Preserve transparency in PNG and WebP exports.
• Choose an export background color.
• JPG exports fill transparent areas with the selected background color.
• Add optional padding from 0–200 pixels.
• Add optional rounded image corners.
• Download names use the original filename with a “-redacted” suffix.
• Exports contain flattened image pixels.
• Editable layers, recovery data, selection handles, and alignment guides are excluded from exports.
• Original EXIF metadata is not carried into the exported image.
• Unsupported export formats produce an error instead of a mislabeled download.

Native XenForo attachment workflow

• Open Redacted alongside supported native attachment upload controls.
• Edit a copy of an existing supported image attachment.
• Attach the edited result through XenForo’s existing uploader.
• Insert the finished image into the post without automatically submitting the post.
• Existing XenForo attachment permissions and upload restrictions remain enforced.
• Existing attachment copies offer a checked-by-default “Remove the original” option.
• Original deletion is requested only after the edited upload succeeds.
• Existing inline BBCode attachment references are replaced in their original positions.
• Existing rich-text attachment images are updated in place.
• Automatic duplicate insertion is avoided.
• If the original was not inserted inline, the edited copy is inserted normally.
• A failed original deletion retains the edited upload and displays a warning.
• Reopening the editor focuses the existing popup.
• Trying to edit another attachment while one is open displays a clear notice.
• Rejected uploads clear the pending state so attachment attempts can be retried.
• Missing replies and disconnected post windows release the pending Attach state.

Paste and drop protection

Offer members a chance to review images before uploading them.

• Optional prompt when image files are pasted or dropped into supported attachment forms.
• Choose “Edit in Redacted,” “Upload as-is,” or “Cancel.”
• Multiple images are queued individually.
• Original images are not uploaded while waiting for a choice.
• Ordinary text and table pastes from Excel, Word, and Google Sheets pass through normally.
• Unsupported non-image files continue through the native uploader.
• Separate integration controls for posts, conversations, and supported Resource Manager attachment areas.

Automatic local recovery

• Automatically saves the working image, editable layers, and undo history in the browser.
• Restore work after a refresh or XenForo style change.
• Recovery is scoped to the board, signed-in user, and editor tab.
• The original image is stored separately to avoid rewriting it with every change.
• Editing changes are saved after a short pause.
• Recovery status is visible inside the editor.
• Recovery records expire after 24 hours and are cleaned when the editor next opens.
• Successful attachment confirmation clears the associated recovery image and metadata.
• Normal downloads preserve recovery for continued editing.
• Delete image clears the current recovery record when browser storage is available.
• A browser warning helps protect unexported changes when leaving the page.

Recovery is stored on the current browser and device. It is not a cloud backup and depends on available browser storage.

Privacy-aware image handling

• Image editing and rendering happen locally in the browser.
• A finished image is uploaded when the member chooses to attach it.
• Solid redaction overwrites the covered pixels in the exported image.
• Magnifiers sample the completed visible edited composition, including redactions added after the magnifier.
• Magnifier sampling remains inside the active crop.
• Exporting or attaching with hidden redaction, blur, or pixelation layers requests confirmation.
• Cancelling the hidden-layer warning during Copy stops quietly.

For sensitive information, use solid redaction or opaque redaction lines. Blur and pixelation can leave information recognizable. Removing an original attachment cannot retract copies that were already downloaded or shared elsewhere.
