How it works in practice

User uploads an attachment → the file lands on your FTP server automatically. No delay for the uploader — transfers happen in the background. All attachment links on the frontend point to your CDN. Your web server never touches the file data for serving.

For sensitive file types (archives, documents, videos), attachment links route through XenForo's built-in permission system first — daily download limits and forum access rules are enforced — then seamlessly redirect to CDN URLs signed with an expiring token.

Everything is per-server configurable: which file types go where, sync or async transfer, custom directory naming, and secure link signing.
