XenStaff

Honor the people who keep your community alive.

A free, premium staff showcase add-on for XenForo 2.3.

Built to thank, not to list.

Most "staff list" add-ons feel like an org chart. XenStaff is a stage. A premium navy-and-gold Hall of Honor page that puts your moderators, admins and team members in the spotlight they deserve — and lets members say thank you with a single click.

We've been intending to build a proper staff page on our forums for some time, so this looks like it should save us a huge amount of time. Thanks for putting this together, and releasing it for free!

I did notice that the XenStaff link under Setup in the AdminCP doesn't appear to be functional. Directs to
Code:
admin.php?xen-staff/
, which just gives one of those " Oops! We ran into some problems. The requested page could not be found." errors. The link under options goes to
Code:
admin.php?options/groups/xenStaff/
and appears to work fine.

Are there any plans to add more granularity to the display of usergroups? One thing I've noticed testing the addon is that all of our staff are just showing up as "Registered". I'm presuming that's happening because we've got things on our forums so everyone's primary group is set to Registered, with their actual staff usergroups (including Administrative/Moderating) set as secondary usergroups. It'd be useful to be able to specify which usergroup(s) individual staff show up under if they have multiple staff usergroups, as well as the order in which those usergroups display.

Thanks a lot for the kind words, glad the add-on can save you some time! 🙂

About the broken AdminCP link:Good catch, thanks for reporting it! The admin.php?xen-staff/ link under Setup is indeed not functional — it should redirect to the options page like the other link does. I'll fix this in the next update so both links lead to the right place.

About the usergroup display:You're absolutely right about why your staff members show up as "Registered" — the add-on currently picks up the primary usergroup, which in your setup is the same for everyone. That's a real limitation for forums structured like yours (and it's actually a pretty common setup).

This is a great suggestion, and I'll definitely add more granularity to how usergroups are displayed. The plan would be:

  • Allow the add-on to detect secondary usergroups in addition to the primary one.
  • Add an option to choose which usergroup(s) to display for each staff member when they belong to multiple staff groups.
  • Add the ability to define a display order for those usergroups (so admins appear above moderators, for example).

I'll add these to the to-do list for an upcoming update. Thanks again for the detailed feedback, it really helps improve the add-on! 🙌

XenStaff 1.0.1 — Bug fixes

Fixed

  • Admin link 404 — Clicking the "XenStaff" entry under Setup in the AdminCP no longer 404s. The redirect now correctly sends you to the option group page.
  • Staff bucketed by secondary usergroups — On forums where every member's primary usergroup is "Registered" and staff roles are assigned via secondary usergroups (Admin, Moderator, Events, etc.), all staff used to appear lumped under "Registered". Now each member is bucketed by the...

Bug fix

🐛 Bug fix

  • Fixed a database error that could block installation or upgradeon MySQL versions older than 8.0.13 (and some strict server setups):
BLOB, TEXT, GEOMETRY or JSON column 'rich_bio' can't have a default value (MySQL error 1101)
The staff-profile rich_bio column is no longer created with a SQL default value (the add-on now sets it in code instead). XenStaff installs and upgrades cleanly on every supported MySQL/MariaDB version...

Hi,

Thank you for reporting this; the bug should now be fixed.

Hi,

Thanks for the great add-on. I have a few feedback points and feature requests regarding its performance and functionality:

Page Load Speed: The page loads very slowly. Is it possible to optimize or make an improvement regarding this issue?

Admin Panel Admin Changes Not Applying: Some changes we make via the admin panel do not reflect on the page (e.g., "Show online indicator", etc.).

Top Staff Member View Toggle: It would be great if you could add a show/hide toggle setting to the admin panel for the "Top staff member" view.

Multiple Ranks Layout Issue: If a user has more than one rank, it causes a layout/display issue in this view. To prevent this, a setting could be added to the admin panel, such as "Show primary user group rank only".

2.1.1: separate header and hero wording, and a tab that lights up

This update brings XenStaff from 2.0.6 to 2.1.1. What each release added:

2.1.1. The Staff tab now lights up while a visitor is on the staff page.

2.1.0. The page title and the description no longer appear twice. The hero banner now carries its own phrases, and a new option decides which heading the page shows.

The full changelog, release by release, is on the version history.

SenseiXS updated XenStaff: a flip-card team page that shows who runs your forum with a new update entry:

Office hours on the cards, cards that fit every screen, install fixes

2.1.2. XenStaff 2.1.2 fixes the sidebar widget, makes flip cards size correctly on every screen, finally displays office hours and grants sensible default permissions on install and upgrade.
  • Sidebar widget: each staff member is now a single link, so the grid, compact and spotlight layouts no longer break in the default style.
  • Flip cards: the back face and the front face are now always the same size at every width, with no hidden or scrolling content; phones show one...

SenseiXS updated XenStaff: a flip-card team page that shows who runs your forum with a new update entry:

Rebuilt on native XenForo: a staff inbox you can reply from, and a page closed to bots

XenStaff 3.0.0 rebuilds the add-on on XenForo itself. Every 2.1 feature is still there, your profiles, thanks, office hours, messages and badges move over on their own, and it is still free.

Messages that get an answer
  • Members and guests write to a staff member from the card, in an overlay. The message lands in the staff member's account area, in an inbox with Open, Replied and Closed tabs, pages and an open count in the account menu.
  • Reply from the message itself: one...

3.0.1: no more credit in your footer

This update removes the "XenForo add-ons by ©XenSupport" line that XenStaff added to your forum footer, separator included. Nothing to configure: install the archive over the previous version from Admin CP > Add-ons and the line is gone once the upgrade has run.

The resource page now says so too: Visible branding: No.
