BoardGameHub - Every game your community plays, with what the box does not tell you.

Every group of board gamers has the same two problems: nobody can remember who owns what, and the evening starts with twenty minutes of "so, what are we playing?". A catalogue site cannot help with either, because a catalogue only knows what is printed on the box. Your forum knows who actually owns the game, how long it really took last time, and whether four players is the right number.

BoardGameHub turns that knowledge into a section of your board.

SenseiXS updated BoardGameHub with a new update entry:

1.1.2: editable plays, a featured game, and nothing covers the box art

This update brings BoardGameHub from 1.0.4 to 1.1.2. What each release added:

1.1.2. Covers that are never covered, form labels restored, alerts that go out on every board, and a library that opens on your collection.

1.1.1. Five settings that existed but never appeared in the Admin CP are now on screen, where the release notes said they were.

1.1.0. A rating that finally says which game it is rating: the base box, or the box with the expansions worth owning...

SenseiXS updated BoardGameHub: shared shelves that pick tonight's board game for you with a new update entry:

Rebuilt on native XenForo, with an Insert board game button in the editor

2.0.0. Rebuilt on native XenForo: a design that follows your style, core moderation and votes, and an Insert board game button in the editor.
  • Every page, public and admin, is rebuilt with native XenForo components: titles, breadcrumbs, sidebars, tabs, filter bars, lists and forms. BoardGameHub now follows your style in light and dark variations and works at every width down to small phones. The table planner, shelf, table sheet and pre-game briefing are all still there...

Hi
Can this be used for tabletop rpg as well?
So one can adapt the fields to make it fit?

Also can it scrape information from bgg or it is no longer available?

Hi
Can this be used for tabletop rpg as well?
So one can adapt the fields to make it fit?

Hi koraldon, thanks for asking.

Tabletop RPGs: yes, with a few things to know.
  • Every entry has a title, cover, description, publisher, designer, illustrator, release year, player count, playtime (think session length), minimum age and two complexity scales (rules and strategy).
  • Entry types map well: a core rulebook as the base game, supplements and adventures as expansions, a new edition as a revised edition. A whole game line can be grouped under one Series.
  • Categories and mechanics are your own lists, edited in the Admin CP. Use Fantasy, Horror or Sci-fi as categories, and d20, Dice pool or Powered by the Apocalypse as mechanics.
  • The board game fields (table footprint, language dependency, solo mode) are optional. When you leave them empty, they don't show on the page.
  • Every label is a phrase, so you can rename things in Appearance > Phrases, for example "Board games" to "Tabletop games". Edits made in your language survive updates.
  • What it can't do is add new fields of your own (a "game system" field, for example). Categories, mechanics and series are the way to cover that.
Reviews, ratings, collections, play logs, lists, game nights and the "what should we play tonight" table all work the same for RPG books.

BoardGameGeek: it doesn't scrape. It uses BGG's official XML API, which BGG closed on 2 July 2025 to applications without a token. Each forum now needs its own application token, registered at boardgamegeek.com/applications. Pick "commercial" if your board earns money in any way, otherwise "non-commercial". BGG approves them, and that can take a week or more.
Once you have the token, paste it into the BoardGameHub options and you can search BGG and import games and expansions from the Admin CP. Responses are cached for a week. Without a token the import stays off, and you can add games by hand or in bulk with the CSV import.
One limit for your use case: the BGG import only fetches board games and expansions. RPG items from RPGGeek are not imported, so RPG books need to be added by hand or by CSV.
