index.html suddenly became active and replaced XenForo's index.php as the homepage

Hello,
I have been using XenForo on my forum for a long time. An index.html file has also been sitting on my server for a very long time.
As far as I know, this index.html file should not normally interfere with XenForo because XenForo uses index.php as its main entry point. In fact, this index.html file had been on the server for years without causing any problems.
However, yesterday, the index.html file suddenly became active and started being displayed as my website's homepage instead of XenForo.
The file itself is not important. It is an old and very simple HTML file that I had uploaded to the server years ago, containing some outdated update-related information.
At first, I was quite concerned because I thought something might have changed on the server or in XenForo. However, I checked my old server backups and confirmed that the same index.html file had already been present on the server for a long time.
What I cannot understand is why this file suddenly became active after all these years and started taking precedence over XenForo's index.php.
Could a XenForo update, server configuration change, PHP/web server configuration, .htaccess change, or something else cause this behavior?
For additional information, I use my XenForo forum through a regular web browser on both desktop and mobile devices. I am not using a mobile app.
I would appreciate any explanation or advice on what could have caused the index.html file to suddenly become the default homepage.
Thank you.
