I don't know who you are ichpen. My remarks are for the owners of Xenforo. Many companies like to get feedback from customers that decide not to use their products anymore. This can give them some ideas on how to achieve better customer retention. Apparently this is not a priority for Xenforo.

why would I bother trying to steal your little xenforo when there are excellent FREE open source forums like phpbb. You guys are pricing your product like there are no alternatives out there.

Xenforo should know whether it is upgrading or installing new. If it is upgrading and can't find config.php and folders data and installed_data, it should stop and prompt the user to upload the files to the correct folder rather than prompt (a) ask the user for mysql login details and (b) prompt...

One possible reason for upgrade trying to install new is if the upgrade files were uploaded into the root folder of the domain when the forum is in a subfolder. This is the mistake I made and it tried to install as new asking for mysql login information etc. When I finally figured out my mistake...
