I also upgraded my test site to 2.3 but not having the same issues, but enough issues to upgrade to production yet - the features slider is not working, but the front page articles and article links are working fine.
Presumably 2.2.07 is for XF 2.2 and 2.1.0.7 is for 2.1 and 2.0.2.5 is for 2.0...
So I just did a completely clean install, added XenPorta 2 and gave the administrative group permission to upgrade to articles.
I then made a post and attached a single JPG, adding it to the post as firstly a thumbnail and then a full image, like this:

So it looks like...
I found another thread that mentioned wildcards, so this works for me!
