I wasn't being "snide" I was pointing out the most logical assumption.
You linked the CentOS one but not any of the other more popular OS https://docs.nodebb.org/installing/os/windows/
Also did you ever use CentOS? You would know why its so short.
Ubuntu is just the one they test releases on...
heres their full response

not sure if they never got the memo or just decided it wasnt worth their time
I believe the Ubuntu guide is the only one with pictures so that makes sense.
I've installed it on a few different systems as well as docker *hardest.
They aren't written with a ton of context but if you're even an amateur dev you should be able to work around any issues you come across.

I use docker a lot actually! which makes this very disappointing and I don't blame NodeBB at all since they make their livelihood developing open source software for free and living off the hosting service. It's really strange Docker went forward with this decision, I guess the $$$ talks
NodeBB isn't hard to setup we've done it a few times while demoing. The issue is it's open source but they have a platform they introduced to host it for you- which is mostly targeted at corporations from my understanding.
This platform itself, even though NodeBB is open source, made Docker...
Waterhole got my attention, but it's written in Laravel which I'd have to learn. Another thing is the pricing is really strange. For that pricing I'd expect more than what the demo shows. It's made by the original dev of Flarum but doesn't really do much more. At least not for the asking price.
Yeah so for those unaware this isn't really good forum software. This is proprietary from a shell company that buys up dying forums and just fills them with ads and ****ty premium promotions.
Thanks for the input. I think the era of Reddit/Stack type sites might continue but also those sites are so impersonal I do think there's a large group of people wanting a more personal community online that you cannot currently get from any social media sites. Twitter trying to start this with...
Yeah for what its worth I think Invision IS worth the price. My issue is customizing Invision seems much harder to do than any other software for the most part.
This is what's been pulling me towards XF/NodeBB.
We're currently looking at NodeBB as well. Is there any specific reason you never...
The core of Discourse seems to be good for commercial businesses but not for communities. The layout is unique but also not really what we're looking for, plus it's ruby
This I find really interesting, I mean I'm not the most knowledgeable about the fediverse but if more software like Xenforo implements the activitypub feature it would benefit a lot of forums I imagine.
Also might be good for future-proofing
