I have around 150 smilies to include when there will be some sort of categorizing/sorting. Hopefully sooner than later :)

any news about this? Is there some ufficial words?

I haven't heard any new news about help in organizing the smilies. Then again, I haven't been watching all of the threads as often as I normally do over the last week. Anyone else here anything?

With 1,000 similes; it would be nice for some way for this to be organized and have the option to add them all at once and not 1 by 1

Well, you can count me on board with this petition! We just moved the bigger of my two forums over yesterday and I was devastated to find I couldn't order my smileys! And at the display - horrendous! Shortly my other forum will be moved over and that's more of a professional topic (hip and knee replacement) so I really hope this will be resolved by then .... PWEEEEEASE? [IMG]

btw, for confessed smiley addicts, I am amazed at the lack of smilies in this thread! [IMG]

I have smilie cats & sort order working. It isn't an addon. it required modifying the DB, editing files, & editing templates. It's not pretty enough for me to release.

    ADMIN SMILIE LIST
cats & order are not edited here. of course it would be a lot nicer to be able to change the cat & order from this page.

    EDIT SMILIE PAGE
Smilie category names are set by editing phrases.
the order of the categories is set by the cat ID #.
you can put smilies into cats without worrying about smilie cat order.

    SMILIE BBCODE HELP PAGE
the little +/- on the help page is to collapse the cat but I don't like the results.

    HAPPY PLACE SMILIE TAB
I have multiple tabs but haven't figured out how pass the cat value to the smilie array which I need to sort the smilies into the diff tabs. it's correctly sorting the smilies into cat order & smilie order but they are still all displaying on the one tab. also, it looks worse than normal on the ipad.

I should get back on it but it's been placed on the back burner due to frustration.

1 last thing, I changed the smilie icon the opens the dropdown to instead open the bbcode smilie help page in a new window. my plan was to remove the surround panel& leave just the smilie table with all the cats collapsed. then add the click insert code. this way there would be a way to get all the additional smilies that didn't make it into the tabs. ran into issues here too.

what I'd really like to see instead is the filter from the admin / template list page to be able to quickly search for specific smilies. I didn't even try looking at that.

That is impressive. Very cool.

    I stand corrected.

Seems to be shaping up. I have to admit though I'm not keen on different tabs for different smilies since you are going to have to cater for a minimum resolution so tabs will break onto a new line. Even more so when you go into the more options editor area. I personally would have went with the one tab option, once open when youhover inside the smiley container a previous (if applicable) and a next arrow appears on each side (much like the lightbox) where your able to scroll to the next category. This will utilize the space more efficiency but more importantly you won't need to worry about catering for the lower resolution or the more options narrow editor area.

I'd personally have the smiley collapse floating to the right leaving the category title void of any intrusive icons.

I can't imagine the frustration your having with this so nice work with all of that.

love the arrows plan. yeah, I was thinking I'd limit it to 4 tabs for that very reason. another issue I had was not all the editors are the same. they looked fine on full editor & quick reply but messed up on quick edit. plsu the "poost reply" buttons sometimes wrapped ugly. keeping it to 1 tab would fix that.

another concern, I didn't want the page to have to load a million smilies. I assume that even though the tabs are collapsed, all those smilies are loading on every thread view.

as for the smilie collapse, I had all intentions of making it prettier & off to the right. I planted the +/- in there just to get the collapse working right & figured I'd fix it up after the fact. then I didn't like how it collapsed / opened. i'm losing the column alignment. Never got passed that & since I didn't get the popup working the way I wanted the collapse became less important. won't need it at all with your arrow swipie plan.

Yeah, the inline editing display does pose an issue which I haven't put much thought into yet. Perhaps not display it in the overlay? Afterall, if your making a quick edit your really wanting to correct a typo, add a couple of more words. If your wanting to add substantially more to an existing post I think people will venture into the full blown editor.

That said, It's something I have noticed with the edit overlay for the happyplace but haven't given it much thought so I'm sure there will be a solution to this somewhere.

With regards to loading up smilies I think spritesheets are the answer here. That being said, and currently the happyplace add-on I'm using doesn't work when spritesheets are enable so I've had to resort to individual imagery. Just out of curiosity, is your custom smiley manager working with spritesheets? this would lower the http requests significantly and think it's worth exploring getting them to work for users who use an abundance of smilies.

Regarding the collapse/open. Good to hear, seems like you have things figured out and look forward in seeing how this progresses. :)

spritesheets also wouldn't work for animated gifs.

the sort & category stuff I did would work w/ spritesheets but I'm not using them for the same reason, the happyplace doesn't like them.
