New Potential Customer - Questions

Hi,

I'm Erik. I currently own (http://www.clancaos.net) and am planning on switching to Host Gator (mainly to get out of my current hosting providers restrictions) and am planning on using xenForo as the Forum Software.

A few questions...

- my current forum has a point system, is there an xenforo addon just like the PunBB point system?
- when I added my logo in the test demo of xenForo, the site didn't move down - it just rolled over the header logo. How would I make it lower down?
- for the shoutbox, where is the best add-on I can use? Does it have mod / admin functionality?
- where is a place I can find premium xenForo templates?
- if I installed an add-on, would I need to manually at it in via cPanel forum directory and then add it in through the admin panel?
- where is the adsense functionality in the admin panel?

Thanks!

Here is a points addon, but I have seen people report problems with it:

http://xenforo.com/community/resources/mypoints-free.882/

When replacing the title image you need to update this setting for positioning purposes:

Admin CP -> Appearance -> Style Properties -> Header and Navigation -> Height of Header Logo

Shoutbox:

http://xenforo.com/community/resources/taigachat-ajax-shoutbox.115/

Styles:

http://xenforo.com/community/resources/categories/styles.29/

And the old style forum from before the resource manager:

http://xenforo.com/community/forums/styles/

There are also several sites that sell professional styles for XenForo. They are all at the top of these Google results:

https://www.google.com/search?q=xenforo+styles

http://xenstyles.com/
http://xenique.com/forums/
http://www.bluepearl-skins.com/
http://www.xenfocus.com/

Yes, most addons require you to upload files and then import the XML in the Admin CP.

Adsense code can be added to the templates. The ad_* templates are good for this:

Admin CP -> Appearance -> Templates -> ad_header

Thank you very much! Appreciate the support!

The point add-on wont let me view it. It says I don't have permissions or something.

Also, one more question before I let you go...

Is there a donation system that allows people to donate a certain amount of money to get a colored username, etc? I know another software allows it.

There is a user upgrade system which allows people to pay (through Paypal) to be added to a usergroup. Then the usergroups can have colored usernames.

Admin CP -> Users -> List User Groups -> [click a group] -> User Name CSS

Hi,

Hello and welcome to the XenForo community. And thank you for considering, XenForo :)

- my current forum has a point system, is there an xenforo addon just like the PunBB point system?

There are a few of them actually. Some of them are simple points and others have more options. There is even a "money" point system (bank).

So you almost have a full dozen (almost 12) alternatives to pick from and all of them are free (there is also a paid version).

So, yes. :)

- when I added my logo in the test demo of xenForo, the site didn't move down - it just rolled over the header logo. How would I make it lower down?
I'm not example sure what you mean by this. Are you asking if it is possible for your logo to scroll down with the site? If so, the answer is yes. XenForo is very customizable.

- for the shoutbox, where is the best add-on I can use? Does it have mod / admin functionality?
All the chat options do indeed have admin / mod functions. And yes there are a few alternatives.

- where is a place I can find premium xenForo templates?
A lot of the free and premium XenForo skins can be found within the resource manager. So you really do not have to go to another site looking for stuff. XenForo makes things easy to find.

We also have a lot of developers here, who are willing and eager to do custom work. Should you decide you want something a little more personal.

- if I installed an add-on, would I need to manually at it in via cPanel forum directory and then add it in through the admin panel?
There is actually a free add-on that allows you to auto install modifications, just as easy as you would in Word Press. It's as simple as up loading a photo in a post. Alternatively you can also do it manually via ftp and the control panel within XenForo.

- where is the adsense functionality in the admin panel?
XenForo is design to be very flexible. Adsense is basically web code which you can easily place yourself, anywhere you want. But there are some add-ons which can help you do this.

You're very much welcome :)

You have to be a customer in order to download anything here on XenForo. This of course is to prevent piracy (sorry).

Oh of course, I feel stupid now. I just wanted to read it's description. Can you copy / paste it here? The features and stuff, I plan to purchase xenForo December / January. I might be a little early, but I'm preparing myself for this.

Another question,
Is there panels for moderators? Similar to the Admin Panel?

I'm getting a permissions error when I view the topic too... and I have a license.

Weird.

Edit: There is no Mod CP, there is just Report CP and Moderation Queue which is in the same bar as Admin CP at the top of the page. The rest of the mod controls are inline.

Err, that resource might be deleted, but I can still see it as a mod. The author of that addon rage quit recently. But he told me that he is in talks with another member of the community to take over his addons.

Now, can you tell me the best point add-on (provide URL) so when I purchase the license, I can look back at this topic and get to it.

Also, going back to the FTP. I would use the FTP program to connect to my server, then I could add the add-on files, etc. from there? Then I would go into the admin panel and add the add-on?

What would I use when clicking on Add-Ons in the admin panel?
Upload or file server? If I already uploaded it from FTP, why would I upload again?

What would I place in that text box? The directory root to the file add-on itself from my server?

Where would the add-ons be placed (admin settings, etc.) after they're installed? Does it have points management?

Addon files are typically uploaded to the library directory. When importing the XML in the Admin CP you can use either the local Browse button or enter a server path to the XML file.

So uploaded file addons are XML? Can I have an example of this please.

(not the library part, but the importing) pretend you're adding an addon to your xenForo site.

Also, going back to the addon management - where in the admin panel would I manage custom addons? Can I have a direct route such as Admin Panel >> Tab1 >> etc.?

I like to think there is no "best", there is only what is best for you. There are a few alternatives to pick from, not just one. I personally use this one

Yes, that is the basic default way to install add-ons.

But there is also a free add-on which makes it more easier and saves time too (does all that work for you)

http://xenforo.com/community/resources/add-on-installer.960/

This one does the work for you and best of all it's free :)

For the easy install addon .. addon. I'd have to use FileZilla to add it. LOL.
