CTA Featured Threads & Portal

CTA Featured Threads & Portal [Paid] 2.17.0

No permission to buy (£40.00)
I can't imagine that will be added.

It just seems like unnecessary bloat and would over-complicate the code and UI; there would have to be four additional check boxes on the overlays to select which areas to display the featured threads in.
All of those settings would then need to be stored somewhere, so that would necessitate schema changes with subsequent updates required to a lot of the code.

Thread level granularity just seems a step too far.

Yes, I understand. The most important thing is really just that a Featured thread also can be displayed only on the Featured-Side without it stands above the subforum.

That is already possible by disabling the option to show the featured threads on the forum list/view.

Yes but that is for all featured threats.
Sometimes you have a large forum an you want to select 10 threads as a featured thread.
But 10 threads display over the forum is way too much.
It would be great if I can say: all threads are visible on the featured thread page and two of them also over the subforum.

Thanks for your support.
Now I have two questions.

First: What is phrase for this:

upload_2014-4-22_17-51-9.webp
secondly:

Can I change the route and how. So my tests were not yet successful.

The easiest was to find a phrase is to search for the actual phrase text, so in this case you would search for "featured thread":
upload_2014-4-22_16-55-53.webp

That will return a list of phrases which include that text:
upload_2014-4-22_16-56-30.webp

In this case it's the first one:
upload_2014-4-22_16-56-55.webp

How are you trying to change the route and what to?

2.2 is done :)

I'll probably push it out tomorrow, after I write up the release notes.

Here's a preview.

But, where's the voiceover? We want to hear your dulcet tones! ;) You could do the voiceover with some techno in the background.

Just play this in the background :D

Brogan updated CTA Featured Threads with a new update entry:

Did someone say icons?

Let us upload custom icons, they said.
It should be simple enough, they said.
Oh and while you’re at it, add options for updating and deleting the icons.

So, by popular demand, 2.2 now allows for just that.

There have been many changes and improvements so I would recommend reverting any changed Style Properties.

Now, when a thread is featured, there is a new [Upload icon] checkbox.

Checking that will allow an icon to...

Superb update! Loving the new ability to add your own icons to featured threads. :D

Is it possible to show these featured threads in the sidebar as a widget? I want to show 5-10 of them, only as a title and without taking up too much space.
@Martok may be able to help with that, I don't use the widget add-on.
I'm not sure that this is possible without some extra work from @Brogan. There is a template renderer that can be used in Widget Framework. In theory a FT template that just contained the titles of the featured threads and nothing else could be used (I did have a quick look myself but haven't worked out yet if I can just pull this code from one of the existing FT templates and then put it in a template of my own). However, if you're then wanting to specify only a certain number of featured threads, then that's extra code required for this (I was thinking it could have been based on the FT page but if there are 20 featured threads I guess that the widget would then show all of those).

If this is something that can easily be done using existing code and with Brogan pointing me in the right direction, I'd be happy to put together a guide on creating a widget framework block. If, as I suspect, it requires work from Brogan then I'd personally suggest that he doesn't bother. The value of Featured Threads is in its position at the top of the forums main page, at the top of thread lists and in the Featured Threads page itself (which is pretty much now a portal). I can't really see any benefit in having a featured threads widgets as I don't think the vast majority of FT users would actually use it - I certainly wouldn't.
