Well, they could be making an excuse for some sort of hard drive failures, blaming it on DDoS too, if the drives are burnt up there is not much they can do other than pay for data recovery.
DDos attacks don't destroy hard drives.
Something aint right here.
Dear Clients,
On Thursday, November 18th of this week at approximately 5:20 PM, a DDoS attack targeting one of our hardware servers took out our full rack of hardware servers at our primary data center, resulting in complete inaccessibility to all servers within our infrastructure and causing all web hosting clients and their accounts located within this location to experience tremendous amounts of downtime. In an effort to remedy the situation, all incoming connections to each server were blocked and the hardware affected was swapped and replaced with new equipment. While we were able to get the systems back up and running for a brief period of time in the early morning hours of Friday, the extent of the damage caused to each system was more than we originally expected. In turn, all information on these machines has become corrupt and ultimately, unusable. This includes, but is not limited to, the data stored on both our primary servers and our backup servers. As of this moment, our network is still down and we have been working tirelessly in an effort to restore all functionality. Unfortunately, we have had no luck, and we will need to replace all machines; a process in which will not occur until the start of this coming week. All effort has been directed into this matter, and as such, we apologize for our lack of constant communication throughout the day today. We realize that this has caused massive inconveniences and are not happy with this in the least.
We deeply regret providing you with such news. Refunds for all clients for the current billing cycle will be processed and generated at the start of business next week and all recurring invoices have been paused. We will continue to work on resolving this matter during the weekend and will not stop until we reach a resolution to at least regain functionality of our client servers.
Please bear with us during this less-than-convenient scenario.
Regards,
R. Jacob Smith

Replacing servers due to a DDoS attack?and we will need to replace all machines
Russian hackers are very good now days, they found a way to inject Viagra redirection links into a script's DB I was running for a blog network and took the entire site down, the only way we could get it to serve pages again was to restore an old backup.
These hackers are running RFI bots 24/7/365 looking for holes in scripts and web servers running without firewalls, so anything is possible if your security is weak.
Peggy and I are in the same boat.
Both my WaltDisneyBoards.com and MysteryDistrict.com sites were involved in the same server crash.
You guys and gals would know more than Peggy and I. So, if you have any tips or suggestions on what we could do to save as much content as possible. I have a full backup saved to my computer, but it was about a year ago. So, I've got a lot that I'd lose if the data cannot be recovered.
Arnyvee .. restore your year old backup right away .. don't leave that page up there .. not good.Nothing recovered at all yet.
We'll know more tomorrow or Monday.
ArnyVee, I'm sorry you were hit too.Peggy and I are in the same boat.

I can help you restore that in a speedy way .. until Monday
You will need a backup of both the server files and the database, from the same build status.
A year old though is going to mean you've lost a year's worth of content, unless your host can recover anything.
So, I should restore that old full backup? Or, should I wait another day or two?
