Have you seen...?

This forum spotlights some of XenForo's interesting features. Spotlights on features in upcoming releases will be posted here.
Welcome to XenForo 1.5 / Assorted Improvements
Welcome to XenForo 1.5. We're now ready to upgrade XenForo.com and start putting the new code through its paces. Following this, we will start the public beta process. All customers with active licenses will be able to download and test the new version. However, please be aware that beta versions are not supported and should not be installed on production sites. There are still some other assorted improvements coming in XenForo 1.5 that we haven't covered yet, so let's look at those... Link title conversion When a post is made, links can automatically be converted to show the title of the page they link to. If enabled, a "simple" link like this: https://xenforo.com/community/ Would be automatically converted to: XenForo Community...
Welcome to XenForo 1.4 / More Assorted Improvements
Welcome to XenForo 1.4. As we are nearing a beta release, it's now time to upgrade XenForo.com and put the new code through its paces. Once we're happy with the state of it, an unsupported beta version will be made available to all customers with active licenses. However, there are still some other improvements to discuss in 1.4. Over time, you may see tweaks that haven't been explicitly called out or adjustments to features that have been shown in previous Have You Seen's. Forum option: moderate new threads and replies separately Previously, forums could only be set to moderate all posts or none. This option has now been split to give you the option to control moderation of new threads and new replies separately: As before, users...
Watching Resource Categories, Anonymous Reviews, and More...
The Resource Manager 1.1 update will soon be running here on XenForo.com with a public beta release to follow after further testing. But before that, let's talk about a few more of the new features coming. Watching Resource Categories Similar to watching a forum in XenForo 1.1, you can now watch a whole resource category: Anonymous Reviews Administrators can now choose to allow users to leave anonymous reviews. Anonymous reviews are still associated with the user leaving the review (to prevent duplicate reviews and to maintain accountability). However, only users with permission to bypass user privacy will be able to see who left the review. In this example I can see that "test" left the review because I have permission...
Watching a Forum
XenForo 1.2 adds another commonly requested feature: the ability to watch a forum. The forum watching system works rather similarly to the thread watching system, just on all content within a forum. When you click the link to watch a forum, you'll see an overlay like this: Notification-less watching options may be expanded in the future (such as with indications on the new threads list). Notifications work identically to thread watching notifications: you'll only receive one about a thread until you view it on the forum. Like threads, you can manage your watched forums in bulk via a dedicated page. This can also be used to simply filter only to forums you're interested in. Administrators can also limit the type of...
Various Moderation Improvements
XenForo 1.3 also contains a number of changes and improvements to help moderators. Let's look at some of them... Reporting a User While this isn't related to an action a moderator would take themselves, users can now be reported directly from their profile. This can be used for users that haven't posted any content, but may have an inappropriate avatar, signature, or other value. Thread Moderator Action History Moderators can now view all moderator-level actions taken in a thread from a new option in the Thread Tools menu: This will display an overlay like this: Moving Posts to an Existing Thread When moving posts via inline moderation, they can now be moved to an existing thread by simply providing the URL to that thread...
XenForo 1.4 includes a handful of useful improvements to help you manage and monitor the user upgrades you have set up on your system. Watch on Vimeo I'm attempting a new recording system with this video - the main thing you should notice is the improvement in audio quality, but if you have any other comments do let me know. However, please don't post feature suggestions in this thread, even if they are directly related to this system! Any features suggestions should be posted in the appropriate feature suggestion forum so that they can be properly assessed and catalogued.
User profile banners, Username changes, Security locking accounts and more!
Welcome to the first of our "Have you seen...?" (HYS) series for XenForo 2.2! To ensure you're kept up to date with future threads, we strongly recommend clicking the "Watch forum" link here and enabling email notifications if you haven't done so already 🙂 Over the course of the next few weeks we would like to not only introduce you to the new features we've been working hard on for the next version of XenForo, but also introduce you to some new members of the XenForo team! We'll introduce those new team members in the upcoming HYS threads. But first... New minimum requirements You might remember that we started requiring PHP 5.6 starting with the release of XenForo 2.1. We base decisions like this on the "anonymous usage statistics"...
User messaging improvements and welcome contact
The ability to Email Users from the Admin CP based on user search criteria has been part of XenForo since its very first release. In XenForo 1.5 we have enhanced this and added some additional ways of contacting your users. Alert Users Using the same search criteria that can be used to email users, you can now mass send Alerts to your users. By default, an alert will appear to be from your own account. Alternatively you can leave this blank (a default avatar is shown instead) or enter the valid username of another user. Most alerts sent on the forum have at least one "PopupLinkItem" link. The purpose of this is so that when the alert is clicked, it is that particular link which is navigated to, e.g. if you click on a watched thread...
User Management Improvements
In the first of our spotlights on new features in 1.2, we're going to be looking at 2 user management improvements in particular. Keep an eye on this forum to see when we post more teasers. :) Note that any features we demonstrate here are still in development, so things about them may change before they're released in a 1.2 beta. User Merging The first feature is rather important, though fairly simple to explain. In 1.2, you can now merge 2 users. The "source" user will have all of their content assigned to the "target" user and then the "source" user will be deleted. It's very easy to use. From the user edit page in the admin CP, you can choose to merge: Then it's just a matter of choosing who you want to merge into...
User Group/Staff Banners
In XenForo 1.1, if you want to customize the display of certain users, you're generally limited to user titles and user name styling. However, sometimes this isn't flexible or clear enough. Sometimes you want to be able to draw attention to multiple things for a single user. Enter user group banners: Banners can be configured per user group: (I am aware of the first banner on the second column having its top border wrapped back. This is a browser issue that we're looking into.) You'll note that this set up is similar to how thread prefixes are configured. You can use custom CSS classes to completely change the display of banners (such as by replacing them with images). I've demonstrated that you can have more than one...
Updates since we upgraded XenForo.com
Having upgraded XenForo.com yesterday, we've fielded lots of feedback and implemented a fair few changes. Here's a handful of things we've done in response to your feedback. Editor styling We've removed the gradient entirely from the unfocused editor, and changed the styling when the editor is focused so that the background now gets lighter on focus, in order to give an editing background that is more like the final destination background. XenForo 2.2 RTE unfocused XenForo 2.2 RTE focused We have also rolled out this change to all input fields across the entire system, changing from the approach we've used since XenForo 1.x, where the background would get darker on focus. XenForo 1.x XenForo 2.1 XenForo 2.2 Question thread...
Updated Media Tagging, Video Uploads and More
Today, we're ready to talk about what's coming in version 1.1 of the XenForo Media Gallery add-on. Updated media tagging So, this one likely isn't going to be much of a surprise. XFMG already includes a content tagging system for media. In XFMG 1.1 we are replacing that system with the same content agnostic system we introduced in XenForo 1.5. As with XenForo 1.5 there are two possible positions for displaying tags. The top position in the gallery is just below the media title: And the bottom position is just below the media, controls, and author information: Adding / editing tags works in exactly the same way: And they also appear in the same way as they do on threads: There are some permissions relating to the ability...
